I originally became interested in Nutritional Medicine through suffering for many years with digestive issues and PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome - linked with insulin issues) which caused serious fertility problems, until I discovered nutritional interventions that overcame them all!

After having discovered these incredible health breakthroughs for myself,  I was convinced that this was the way to go, so I began studying nutritional medicine  formally. I now have a Diploma in Nutritional Medicine through the University of West London and am working part time as a nutritional therapist along with being a stay at home mom to my family.

Before getting into Nutrition, I grew up with a "normal" western diet and lifestyle - well one that I would consider "normal" - eating whatever junk food and sugary foods whenever and getting away with it, but that finally started to catch up with me in my early 20's when I started to see a shift in my body's overall health and began to have to deal with many of the things I had ignored for years. Through Nutritional Medicine, I have grown in my understanding of the body and just how complex, yet amazingly simple it is - input and outputs, and many different issues that all intertwine and affect each other.

I focus very much on establishing a foundation of health in my clients.  Ensuring proper vitamin/mineral balance, the right ratios of fats/proteins and healthy carbohydrates supports the body's general functions. This will help to prevent or reverse different symptoms which would otherwise progress towards named diseases, depending on the person's inherited or acquired weaknesses.

Many people come to see me with all kinds of issues, and there are so many different approaches out there, so many different herbs, nutrients, diets etc. that they are often confused by all the hype and information that they have heard on their journey towards health. I work to dispel many of the "fad" diets, supplement advice and "hype" and bring them back to a solid understanding of what constitutes healthy living and from there work to address their specific health issues.

I work to establish a strong baseline of nutrition through dietary changes and introduction of specific supplements, before looking towards any secondary therapies. The body was designed to heal itself, given the right nutrients and ingredients it needs to work properly, and a huge amount of natural healing can take place simply by getting this first step right.

I look forward to being a part of your journey towards better health!

Rachael van der Gugten

P.S Wondering about my accent? Well, I am originally a New Zealander but spent most of my life overseas! I grew up as a child and teenager mainly in the Philippines, and then later moved to Switzerland in my 20's where I was studying when I met my husband Andy who is half Swiss/American with dutch heritage.

We lived in Switzerland for 11 years and had 3 of our 4 kids there before we moved back to New Zealand for 5 years, and then moved to Brisbane, Australia, in May 2019.
