Modern processed foods wreak havoc on our bodies and disrupt our digestive processes, cause inflammation and have many toxic ingredients and components that can cause potential health problems.
Paleo and Primal diets all have the common core of cutting out (or greatly reducing) refined and processed foods, grains, and legumes while focusing on nutrient dense foods such as meats, vegetables, nuts and seeds and healthy fats. They all focus on foods that predate the industrial revolution and our over-processed food world and place the importance on nutrient density which is key to restoring health and making every bite count. Food becomes medicine and plays a vital role in restoring health.
For those who want to lose weight and control blood sugar or correct severe hormonal imbalances, I usually recommend following a modified Ketogenic diet for a specific amount of time to correct insulin issues and help the body burn fat - this helps to correct the metabolic dysfunction resulting in diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity and hormone imbalances.
For others, I generally recommend a Low Carb diet with variations of either a Paleo or Primal approach to nutrition in order to achieve certain health outcomes therapeutically. The only difference is the inclusion of dairy or not, which as long as a person doesn't have a problem with lactose or casein, I tend to be more relaxed about.
There are plenty of resources online for how to follow these types of diets so rather than rehashing them again on my own website I am happy to endorse the websites that I have used and recommend. They have great recipes, menu plans and other tools that you can use to stay on track with your diet and getting into a healthy pattern of eating that will support your body's health.
